Ive recently travelled to the canary islands. I flew with monarch airlines from Birmingham. My return flight was delayed by 20 hrs which meant I lost out on a hotel room which I had booked and my return flight from Birmingham to cork the following morning. It was to late to cancel these. My question is where do I stand with any claims? I also lost a days wages as I didn't arrive home till monday instead of sunday.
Thanks

Had you insurance?

You should also check out the T&C's on the flight purchase.

This site was mentioned in the past but I have never used it myself and do not know what fees are charged

I don't think you'll get anywhere with Monarch for the Cork leg of the flight as it was (presumably) on a different ticket or on the hotel room unless Monarch sold you that.

You are due compensation for the delay and I would have thought that they should have handed out leaflets detailing your rights under the EU regulations.

Travel insurance for the rest, if you had it.

We had a long haul delay this summer. 21 hours delayed departure from a UK airport to Canada. 4 people in travel party. Wrote to airline advising that we were seeking compensation under EU directive. Did not enclose any documentation or recepits - simply flight number, date and essential details. Sent it by registered post to the customer service address. Got an email a month later confirming compensation was due - €600 per person. €2,400 transferred to our bank account one week later.
Travel insurance would have paid €40 per person.
