I'm fed up with BOI's increasingly poor customer service, so i want to change my account. I'd decided to go to the AIB beside me in work and asked them about switching. Now I'd been under the impression that there was a current account switching facility in place by the banks, but when i mentioned it to AIB they told me that thats not the case. I had to open the account and do all the DD ,SO, funds transfers etc. changes myself.

Is the below no longer valid? OR are AIB just being lazy?

From [broken link removed], see Personal Current Account Switching Pack link at the bottom:

"What we do: we’ll open your new current account, set you up on AIB Phone & Internet Banking and send you your current account details. Next, we’ll set up your standing order and active direct debit instructions to meet your agreed transfer date. Finally, we’ll confirm to you that we have received all your balances, standing orders and active direct debits."

Sounds like theyre being lazy.

Have you considered Ulster or PTSB for easier ways to get free banking?

The switching code is still in place. The branch staff are mistaken.

Have you read the current account best buys?

I love PTSB, appreciate UB and Danske Bank with their esaver account offer the best bridge for an online transfer abroad in my opinion

Thanks for the replies folks.

I have excluded Dankse because they dont have any branches. I have a need from time to time to go into branches...so Danske are out.

I have excluded PTSB because of the appalling customer service they provided with the Northern Rock account transfer (basically changed the terms & conditions of the account from being online)

EBS -I considered these, but its a bit mickey mouse operation (again poor branch structure)

I didnt pick UB because my understanding (From their website) was that there is a €40 account charge per annum

Basic Ulster Bank Current a/c is FREE at least until July 2013 - no €40 charge. EBS is run by AIB but again many people including AIB current a/c customer's could save alot of money by switching to EBS. Maybe you could open a Ulster and EBS current a/c and give both a few month's trial. EBS don't offer a cheque book.
