Speeding points and summons

Ay advice appreciated.

One of our reps got speeding points, fine was sent to our accounts dept.
Account changed over and notice went unopened.

It was recently found, paid late and was returned to us saying it was too late and summons date is being arranged.

From what I've read, points automatically double if it goes to summons stage.
Does he need to get a solicitor or is the above likely to be taken into account.
Anyone with experience in this area?

You are being summoned because of not paying the fine or you are getting done
because you were speeding.
Just go to court all humble and sorry.
Make sure you highlight the fact it was a genuine error and that it was paid.
Bring a copy of the transaction.

Getting a solicitor is overkill for a minor charge.
The rep needs to appear at court as he was driving the car.
I have never gotten extra points for not paying stuff.
Extra fine in court maybe but not double points.

Actually in this case I believe the registered owner of the car needs to appear in court. As the original poster stated the fine went unnoticed until after the payment period, it's likely that the owner of the car never informed the authorities that another person was driving the car. Hence the car owner is still liable not the person driving the car at the time.
