Mazda 6 v Ford Mondeo - reviews please

Hi folks,

I'm currently driving a 2009 Mazda 6 1.8 petrol and am considering changing to a Mondeo.

I love the Mazda, but it can be a little harsh on non motorway roads and the smallest pothole would make you think you've lost your suspension somewhere. Would I be mad to change to a newer Mondeo (2010, maybe 2011 if I found the right deal)?

Been trawling different sites and whilst the Mondeo gets great reviews, I've never heard anything from the horses mouth, so would love if there are any Mondeo drivers out there willing to share their experience.

cheers

Randy

Hi,

I've an 08 model 1.8 TDi - 5 door... and it's been great so far (touch wood)... bought it from new, great comfortable drive . I drive "back roads / secondary" roads a lot due to where I live and it handles them well, on the motorway / dual carriageways, great power there and comfortable drive... Huge boot in the 5 door (if you need it).

No issue with recommending one... but this is from "new"... need to be aware of the cars history if buying second hand...but thats with all makes...

If you need other specific info, let me know...

What wheel/tyre combo do you have on it? 17" low profiles I'm guessing. Changing to a 15 or 16" wheel with corresponding larger profile tyre would make a significant improvement to the cars ability to handle our typical roads.

My partner has a 2008 Mondeo 1.8 (1.9?) diesel and its a great car. Lovely to drive, very responsive. Interior is comfortable and nice features like integrated bluetooth, display, cruise control etc. It holds up great on country roads and is a pleasure on long drive. Massive boot on the 5 door as mentioned previously.

Never had a problem with it so far, just serviced regularly for usual bits (oil, filters, tyres when needed). Thinkin of switching to one myself!

Hi Leo,

Nope, standard 16" alloys!

Not knowing anything about the cars in question, it would seem like a very easy way to get rid of money to simply buy a car that is 1 year newer than your own. Transaction costs IMO are the biggest cost of motoring if you change frequently. Unless you have a dictinct requirement for something different...like an estate for new dogs or the like I wouldn't bother. The only exception would be to buy an older, premium car. Just my 2c.

Hi folks,

I'm currently driving a 2009 Mazda 6 1.8 petrol and am considering changing to a Mondeo.

I have had two new Mondeos, diesel 2.00 TDCI from new. First one blew 2 injectors, cost €600 and the latest one had the flywheel replaced under warranty recently, lucky call from local mechanic, no symptoms I had noticed. Great comfortable car but I would be reluctant to get another and I have owned 4 over the last 11 years.

What profile are the tyres?

205/60R16's....I'm telling you, it's not the tyres...think it's set up with a slightly stiff suspension for a "sportier" drive...which is fine for me, but not terribly comfortable for passengers

Ok, I believe you. A couple of friends have them on 15" rims and can't speak highly enough of the ride quality.
