Hi All,
I have been flying back and forth to shannon over the last number of months from the UK and I get a car from the airport in Shannon. I get charged each time a full tank of fuel and the amount is returned upon returning a full tank.
Recently, I have been getting charged £7.20 as a credit card fee for this. (sometimes they charge other times they dont) I have asked them for alternative payment but they said they dont have it. Can anyone offer any advice here?

The 7.20 is not becuase the car was returned with less fuel i have asked them on this, should I be able to offfer alternative payment, i have all the prepaid cards thanks to ryanair.

Will they not take Cash?

Is it the same hire company you are using?
Why not approach another hire company and see if you can strike a deal with them based on your frequent and regular hiring of a car. This may eliminate such charges.

I tought that car hire companies only take a pre-authorisation when collecitng the car, for the total expected amount, and then do a formal transaction at the end of the hire for th eexact expense? Shoudl be no charge for this....

Some companies (e.g. Avis) will take a pre-authorisation for an estimated amount of fuel. When you return the car full, they should reimburse you the amount. The fee is just to extract even more cash out of you.
If you cannot flat-out refuse to pay the fee, change companies, and make sure the old company is aware why they are losing your business.
