Buying from Asia on ebay?

Hi, is it safe to buy stuff on e may from Hong Kong etc. Always cheaper and free p&p, but I know it might take 2 or 3 weeks for product to arrive. In this case, it's a pair of crocs - €16 from Asia with free p&p, and about €30 elsewhere. I've bought loads from e bay over the years, but not from Asia. Anyone help?
 
I don't think you can generalise by country, or continent ;) ! I have bought from Hong Kong, via ebay, without issue. If the seller is highly rated, you can have some confidence.
 
I've bought stuff from Hong Kong etc on Ebay. Never had a problem. Just check the sellers ratings, deliveries etc. The only thing I's say is the the quality of some goods I bought, whilst okay, where not up to the equivalent available in shops here.
 
In many cases, stuff being sold on ebay may be coming from HK/China in any case - even if the vendor is registered on ebay in the UK.
 
Don't forget you may have to pay import tax on the goods when they arrive......might not make something as cheap as you think.
 
There's no duty on items under €22 in value, afaik.

It might be worth doing a price check on the likes of Dealextreme.com, Focalprice.com or Buyincoins.com. They mostly do consumer electronics but also carry all sorts of gift/novelty items, and their prices (with free p&p) are often lower than on eBay.

Not commenting on the rights or wrongs of it - but many of the chinese vendors mark their products as 'gift' - or put in a reduced value on the customs declaration form that accompanies their wares....
 
Beware that a lot of the material coming in that route is also counterfeit. Customs do random checks and seize anything suspect.

I have had stuff seized once in the past from a seller with a lot of positive feedback. In that case I ended up submitting a claim to PayPal as the seller wouldn't respond. They found in my favour, but the seller had cleared their account, so I never got my money back.
