Hi Folks;

Any recommendations for a central and relatively cheap hotel in Edinburgh?

Cheers
Alan

In general hotels in Edinburgh are usually quite expensive - but there are some really good guesthouses around - the Murrayfield area is an easy walk into the city - 20 mins.

Carlton House is bog standard if you're going for a stag or something. Just about a mile from the Royal Mile.

Stayed there for the Heineken Cup in 2009 and 'twas the job as somewhere to lay the head on the pillow for the short periods of time we were staying there.

Don't expect any luxury though, more like Fawlty Towers.

Holiday Inn, Costorphine road (Beside the zoo) are doing rooms for 39 sterling a night. It's about 2 miles into princess st which can be simply bussed or walked in the morning. Teener in a taxi at night. No breakfast so add another tenner for that. Weigh that up against any other one in town which will at best be about 60 sterling. As stated Ibis, Novetel, Holyrood McDonalds (best remcomendation) are all central but depending on when you are going and what price you get. Try the usual websites and pick the best value.

Don't go neat that place, a real last resort unless you can get nothing else.

If you get online there's plenty of options in the city centre that'll let you fall out of Espionage and into bed at 3am.

Gerard's Place Guesthouse gets rave reviews on Tripadvisor and is in a good location? Was thinking of staying there myself!
