Can anyone from personal experience recommend me a lightweight laptop / notebook? I’m not interested in a tablet. I want something that is lightweight (for business travel); proper keyboard for Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.; with USB ports; wi-fi; Bluetooth; a web cam for Skype; a decent size HD for photo storage / processing (i.e. Photoshop Elements); and can play movies, music, etc. Any recommendations from personal experience?

It all depends on your budget.... how many €s are you looking at... the more money you throw at it, then the better, lighter, faster laptop you can get...

Lenovo Thinkpad X220
12.5 in screen, good battery life, good keyboard, good spec.
about 1150 ex vat

For the absolute minimum budget perhaps this :In the Netbook section of Peats; Toshiba NB550D Netbook for 299 Euro here has Harmon Kardon Speakers with really excellent sound quality when playing movies and music (something I always was disappointed about in netbooks), HDMI connection ,usb ports etc . In fact it has everything you require at a minimum budget plus its a dependable brand. And it used to retail for over 400 euro a few months ago.

By all means shop around. I only mentioned Peats because I want to support local stores and local jobs if I can. From personal experience it is really fantastic for movies and music because of the Harmon Kardon speakers, great graphics card for the price and easy to connect to your TV or monitor if you have a HDMI cable but I havent tried photoshop on it yet. It also has a good keyboard, built in webcam , good battery life (claiming 9 hours but if youre playing videos probably a lot less) etc as per your requirements.

Thank for your recommendation; it put me on the right track. As for supporting local stores I do this also. But when on two occasions I visit a store and am ignored by the sales staff, I move on. In the end I got the netbook in Dixon's in Dublin Airport.
