Sorry,My question got buried in another Lanzarote thread a while back.
Have flights booked for Oct midterm to Lanzarote.Haven't been before so any tips are welcome.Looking at booking villa with pool near beach and restaurants. Not really wanting to hire car so what area/districts would be best.I've heard that Peurto del Carmen may be best, with 2 teens (16 & 17) Thanks in advance

We stayed in Fariones Playa in mid August and it's location was excellent, being able to lie out beside the pool looking at the sea was great and our 7yr old spent the full week in the pools with a quick dip in the sea inbetween. It was quiet windy so I don't know what it would be like in October.

There was a supermarked within the complex and another nearby and they supply the pool towels. We will definately go back there again sometime. The dearest place we ate was in the complex itself, there is a lovely bar called Roys very near the complex and they do an all day breakfast for €2.95

Enjoy.

I have been to Lanzarote once and I liked it. I would prefer the newer area to the 'old town'. There is a long promenade which stretches from the old town to the Los Pocillos end, about 2 miles. The prom is very nice and we stayed about halfway along it in a rental apartment, got on villarenters or holidayletting.co.uk. This end is quieter but has lots of bars and restaurants. Maybe with the teenagers you would prefer the older area which would be a bit livelier. I think Fariones is very expensive but well located. Up our end there was a complex which I thought would be good called Rosamar. There are several posts on here about apartments in Lanzarote.

The old town is more of a fishing port, I was'nt overly impressed with old town at all - i was visualising a lovely old type fishing village where you could walk down around the boats when they would come in with lovely restraunts and bars all around where you could sit for hours watching the world go by... its nothing like that at all. I did'nt see any beach area, just narrow windy streets with the restraunts trying to get everyone into theirs and a large shoping centre at the top of the hill between oldtown and newtown.
One of the nights we were up there there was a big carnival which was lovely for the little lad but we went up again another night and there was nothing there at all, just a big carpark where the carnival had been.

Everyone had been telling me that old town was beautiful, so I was expecting something like albuferia in the algarve but no comparison, at least down in the new area there is a lovely wide paved promenade where you can walk with the beach beside you and all the shops, bars and restraunts accross the road and you can decide where you want to go into without being accosted the whole way up and down the street.

We go to lanzarote once every year, normally during winter months and love the island. Would agree that the newer end of PDC is muc h nicer to stay in, it's quieter and much prettier with a gorgeous prom, you can walk for ages down to where the planes come right in over your head to land. Some lovely hotels and apartments at that end as well. We have stayed in apartments called Barcarola Club and also in the Hotel San Antonio. Both are top class.

Have any of the Lanzarote regulars ever done a day trip to Fuerteventura?
Looking at going there and believe you can do boat trips between the two islands.

After years of pestering from my wife we did the north island tour last year and i found it very interesting though some of the twisty hilly roads made me close my eyes! the regular bus service (green bus) will take you north to Costa Teguise and south to Playa Blanca both lovely spots. If you leave early you can have a nice day out. Never did the Fuertoventura trip.
