Key Pad like [not QWERTY] text message input on fones from 3

Moving to 3 and was looking, in store, at the Samsung and HTC touch screen fones on offer from 3 on prepay last night

All have them the fully qwerty keyboard as the input system for text messages as opposed to the fone key pad like set up on some older touch screen fones.
[by fone key pad I mean 2 abc all on same button as on physical fone key pad]

The quy in the shop thought that some of them could be switched from qwerty but was unsure.
Any thoughts?
I dont need it for email, just text and the qwerty is just 2 small

With the HTC models you can definitely switch between qwerty keyboard and predictive text phonepad

however found this for the HTC Desire [ 380 euro!!! }
Keyboard types
Select the keyboard layout to use.
You can choose from
QWERTY, Phone Keypad, or Compact QWERTY.
...
Text input § Turn on or off predictive text, spell correction, and word
completion.
§ Enable audible or vibration feedback when typing.
§ Calibrate the touch keyboard accuracy.
