I very rarely go into my bank, even less would I have reason to ring them. But today I had to ring, my son needs a student account setting up and I wanted to know if we need an appointment and what to bring along.

Ring branch on their direct number to met with a series of Press 1,2 and so on options. Press 3 for new account queries. Rings and ring and rings so I hang up and try again. This time go through to press for operator assistance...who cannot help me as I need to speak to customer services. Get put through to them only to get a recorded message and have to leave my name and number. That was 2 hours ago....

When did they become so bad, are they all like this now?

Press 1 if you are angry
Press 2 if you would like to repeat all of this
Press 3 if you have now changed your mind and do not require a student account set up anymore...

Could not resist!

You should wait and let your son set up his own student account when he starts in college, the banks usually are falling over each other with special offers/discount cards in the first week of college, why tie him to your bank?

may not be college?, not clear from post

He is starting college in a few weeks so just wanted to have it in place before he goes, knowing him he would never get round to it. Only staying with our bank as it will be quicker to transfer money over if he is stuck.

As for the bank, they eventually rang me back after I left a second message...but I was suprised at not being able to get through the branch straight away like the good ole days!

Save stress. Just let your son sort it out. He is a third level student now!

You should join AIB who ring mEe on a weekly basis to ask if I am happy with their service...Each week, I ask them not to ring me again...and then the following week comes and guess what........

He has no ID though, his passport is taking forever to get renewed, been waiting 4 weeks already and now told it won't be ready until mid september, he isn't 18 until late September either so he can't get his age card . Our bank are letting him open one based on our relationship with them as long as he brings in his birth certificate and CAO offer.

I know that in the registration week, the campus's are crawling with banks trying to nab the students. You get all the deals from these lads as well, like free this and that. Leave it to him, they pretty much sign you up on the spot.
