Hi all,

As We are looking to change banks, I just want to make sure I know what ones will be left?

BOI, AIB and who else? Ulster bank - thanks :)

If you mean clearing banks - that offer current accounts etc, I think we will be left with AIB, BoI, NIB and Ulster. KBC are active in the market, but are not clearers and do not offer current accounts. There are a multitude of banks offering deposit accounts only.

You did not mention why you were looking to change bank, or indeed what services you were looking to change bank for.

Hi, we are looking for transaction free banking basically so it seems like ulster bank is the only one of the above that those this - without t's and c's

I suspect it is only a matter of time before all banks move away from "free" current accounts, as they are costly to run for banks - branch network/tellers, cheque processing, cash handling etc. there is only so much cross-subsidisation from other products that a bank will do. Ulster have been hoovering up current accounts for the last couple of years. However, they offer 2 packages - uFirst and uFirst Gold with monthly maintenance fees which give discounts on other products and services such as mortgages. Maybe that is the direction of banking - a bit like a loyalty bonus.

A word of advice, don't make free banking the decision point, because it will not be around for too long! Irish banking has to get back into the real world, and in the real world, banking services are not free.

Jim.

Thanks guys, will have another think so.

There is no need to have a think,if you want free banking then go to UB,there is no indication that they are going to introduce fees and they are not an Irish Bank.

The other alternative is to remain where you are and continue paying fees...

No brainer really.
