I have an idea to marry a number of mobile and internet technologies to create a new business idea. Where do I start with IP?

Look at the Enterprise Ireland website.
If you can sell it internationally then call them and they'll help.

Have a look at the website of the Irish Patents Office - http://www.patentsoffice.ie/ - there's plenty of useful information there. You can phone them for a chat too, I have found them to be very helpful.

Once you have a broad idea of the options open to you it would be worth phoning a few patent agents (here's a list) or trademark agents (list here) and see who will give you a free consultation and a good price.

I would also suggest you talk to an IP lawyer who understands international patents, copyright and trademarking.

The rest of the effort will be wasted if the legal stuff isn't handled right.

I have some experience of dealing with patent attorneys, there are some terrible providers out there. My experience with fr Kelly has been exceptional, some others rush to take money from you and I'm quite convinced will overpromise and under deliver. I have no affiliation but drop them a line, good guys
