I need to update my garman, just wondering if any one knows if the updates include the new motorways yet?

I beleive it is about €80 to update. When I contacted Garmin a few months back they could not guarantee that the new motorways were on the updates. I have checked some Garmins in Halfords stores and the motorways are not on them either.

Be careful of using this method (without actually checking the map version) to assess the detail of maps, as quite often shop GPS's have outdated maps loaded on them.

New lifetime map updates out today V2.6.11 so hopefully some of the new motorways will be on it - here updating my own at the min

Let us know how you get on and cost. I need to update my Garmin also but I am weighing up new sat nav versus cost of update. Thanks.

NHG mentioned Lifetime update. Lifetime is a once off payment that gives you 4 map updates a year for the life of the device. Full European Lifetime maps cost €89.

Map update

I updated mine recently I have a Garmin 255W. It was the one off update for 89€ - I haven't tried it out bought it for a trip to France.
The upgrade was a hassle. I started the download and it stated there wasnt enough space on the device to update it - 333megs on the device the maps are 2 gigs. I had to buy an SD card for 15€ on ebay then when I installed the updated maps on the laptop and transferred the whole European maps they were only about 330 megs.

So in short I could have downloaded the maps on the laptop and then freed up a small amount of space on the device and installed them without the SD Card.

I found it as a service pretty poor - there is loads of information on the forums on it - which I read after they had billed my card. They bill the card before you are informed about the storage issue.

Yeah, you should always download the map updates to your computer, and not directly to the device. You can then use the supplied software to choose what areas you want to send to the device, and can update that as often as you like without having to download the data again. It's a while since I updated mine, but I thought it was reasonably straightforward.

The FULL European map image (the latest NT2012.10) is over 2GIG when stored on the device and is definitely not 330Megs.
Just Ireland and Uk alone is 215Megs.
