Golf GTI - Electrical problem

Folks, I know pretty much nothing about cars.

My '07 Golf GTI has developed a (somewhat bizarre) problem. A warning light saying "bonnet open" is permanently on (even though the bonnet isn't open).

The other problem is more serious. The windscreen wipers only work when the car's moving. As soon as I stop at (say) traffic lights, they immediately stop. Then when I take off from the lights, they come back on.

I get the car serviced at one of those tyre places, but they told me that they're not "auto engineers" or "electrical engineers" (it was something like that).

Where should I go or what sort of garage should I look for?

Thanks, Folks.

Could be any number of things from a fuse or relay to something more. I would bring it to MKW motors out near Baldonnel - Mrs Blues had an 07 one and they took very good care of it as they did with anything I brought them.

Are you sure the wipers are stopping completely when stationary? Mine drop to intermittent wipe when stopped and if the delay is set to the longest time between wiper strokes may appear to have stopped completely. Is intermittent wipe working? It could be a faulty bonnet catch causing the "bonnet open" warning.

Thanks for the replies, Folks.

The wipers definitely cut out completely. The power just cuts and they stop immediately as if the engine has been switched off.

i work for vw, i reckon its the connection on the bonnet catch or just behind the drivers head lamp there is a plug there for the bonnet switch, not makin a complete connection, wipers wont work if the car thinks the bonnet is open,
