Hi , we are thinking about moving back to Ireland to Castleknock.
I know nothing about the place other than it would be close to my husbands work. Could you please advise as to what areas are good for a family to buy a home in.
And also is there a crisis in getting school placements for primary, we would be moving with a 10 year old and a 4 year old.
thanking you in advance

The houses in the Caslteknock area are very expensive. I think it is the most expensive are in the Dublin 15 area ? It is a lovely area to live in. Alot of the schools in Ireland are full and some people are finding it difficult to get their kids into the local schools. You would be best to contact the local schools and see if they have any availability.

Thank you so much, I have sent some e mails to the schools and I am awaiting responses from same.. Do you know any estates off hand which you know of that are good estates to bring up kids.

Sorry I can't comment on Castleknock as I live on the far side of the city but hopefully others here will be able to give you some advice.

You may find something useful on www.neighbours.ie

Thank you Sue Ellen, they are really great sites.I am keeping my fingers crossed that one of the schools will have places for my kids, I did not get a reply from them yet. thank you once again

castleknock prices can vary to over a million at phoneix pk main gate end,to around 250,000€ in laurel lodge.so a look on daft or my home would be a starting point.

Congrats on the move back to Ireland and good luck in securing a home.

Might I suggest that if you are new to an area that you rent there first and tease out what you like or not like about the area...maybe Castleknock might not be for you..

Also, and more importantly in my opinion, I think you should do some research on property prices in Ireland...the link below is a good start

You might also look at the Daft.ie reports....the latest one, link below makes interesting reading...pm me if you need anything else..

As others have pointed out there is a huge variation in house prices in Castleknock. You can live in a detached mini-mansion on 1.5 acres or in a 2 bed townhouse. There is something for everyone.

Castleknock village itself is a little underwhelming (in my opinon) and suffers badly from all the through traffic. However the proximity to the Phoenix Park shouldn't be underestimated - its a wonderful amenity!

We live in a 3 bed semi off Carpenterstown Road and we are very happy. It's quiet, close to several primary schools (St. Patrick's, St. Mochta's and Scoil Choilm), several secondary schools (Castleknock College which is fee paying boys only, Castleknock Community College, Lutterstown Community College which is planned, probably under construction at this stage). A few mins walk to Coolmine Train Station, or no. 37 bus. Doctor, pharmacy, pub, shop etc a short walk. Not quite Castleknock Village but was, and still is, much more affordable.

How do you find the traffic coming out of Carpenterstown in the mornings?
