Hi,
I have given up searching for an answer.
Let say I would like to post an official query to revenue or any other national institution.
Is there a death time set for an answer in any act or other legal statement - if yes could you point me please?

The official answer is contact the "Standards in Public Office Commission" tel 01-639 5666 . they're in Leeson st Dublin and are supposed to enforce the law dealing with such things as civil servants are supposed to deal with members of the public "sympathetically, efficiently and promptly". You can google all this.

the unofficial answer (and I'm a prejudiced old man) is that civil seRvants will rarely give a definitive reply if it is anything but bog-standard rules.
If you have asked a question that cannot be answered exactly as per the rules - i.e. that would involve someone giving an interpretation or an opinion - then forget it.

Even persistent writing in recorded mail won't elicit any response. Even if you are a director of a trade body (as I was) it won't help much. But...

.. formally complaining to the above body ,especially on a solicitors letter (stating that "due to lack of guidance/information from xxxx our client is uncertain what action to take resulting in loss of earnings etc etc and it is therefore imperative ,as per the relevent statute that his/her query is dealt with promptly") did work.

Having said all this maybe first making a phone call and getting a name of someone in the dept to whom you are writing may help.

Are you making a query under the [broken link removed] or just a general query to a department or offfice? People expect civil servants to provide them with information sometimes that they simply are not qualified to give. I am talking about specific legal queries here that only a solicitor could answer, or technical queries that a qualified accountant can only answer. However, if you are seeking information regarding a service propvided, an answer can be obtained pretty quick. Most Government departments and offices have good websites and they also have a customer charter in relation to dealing with queries.

Thank you for a quick response.
I am talking about the official query regarding decision that affect into my business and me personal. I was not informed about reason of that decision and I would like to keep the records of that query and get the answer within the time ....? Time is money.
That is why I am asking about that time - it has to be set somwhere?
Oldnick - "sympathetically, efficiently and promptly" people :) - yes I am looking for them, hope find one tomorrow when I call them.
I would be happy to find a rule about my query rather than call anybody.

PS
RonanC - I have just seen your answer - bingo! I think this is what I am looking for. Sounds exactly as the subject of my problem (decision).
Thank you - have to study right now.

Don't forget to send in your query by registered post or recorded delivery. Letters have been known to go missing or get lost on someone's desk.
