Buying Glasses Frames online

Hi, I need to get new glasses and most of the frames in my opticians range from €150 - €350. I've googled a couple of sites and can find the same frames for prices ranging from £45 to £100. I cant find a recommendation for any particular site so was wondering if anyone here could recommend a website

ps. I am looking for frames only which I will then bring to my opticians. Please dont refer to prescription ordering as the thread will be closed.

Hi, I dont have a website to recommend, but I would advise you bring the spec of the frames to the optician and ask can your prescription be used with them prior to ordering, some opticians have the machines pre-tuned to cut glass for particular frame brands/sizes. There is also a possibility that the glass for your prescription could be too thick or too thin for some frames.

Would most opticians do this? I would have thought they might not due to them losing out on the profit (which is probably very big) on the frames. I'd be interested in doing this too so I'll be interested to see how you get on Newbie.

I think they will. I had a very nice designer frame (gift from a friend) and the optician (Vision Express) inserted the lenses no problem.

Yes they do - but as I mentioned earlier there can be issues if the frames dont match with their standard machining sizes/specs.

I've already picked the frames in the opticians and have found it online for 60% less. I am going to stick to my optician for the prescription though.

And I haven't asked the Optician yet but nothing ventured etc. My glasses, with 1.7 thinned lenses, usually come in at over €600 which is pretty steep so definitely worth exploring other avenues.

Thats brilliant - so long as the site is reputable and the frames really ARE the same frames of course.

I often wondered how people managed about ordering frames online as you dont get to try them on, great idea to pick them in the opticians and then buy the same ones online.

Im currently waiting on my new prescription lenses to be fitted, I am using my current frames, I did buy them in the same opticians, but that was a couple of years ago and when I said I just wanted to use the same frames they didnt ask me if Id bought them there, they just took them in and told me when the glasses will be ready.

I used selectspecs.com, got glasses with prescription for all of €12 delivered! Admittedly I only need them for driving and wasn't interested in a designer frame.
I'd recommend ordering the glasses with the prescription and if you are not satisfied with the prescription you can always get optician to take them out & replace.
You can figure out the size of frame that will fit your head by trying them on at opticians & looking at the frame size at the the printed measurements usually found on the arm or bridge.
