One thing I love about these music threads is that it gets you to look back over your collection and listen to stuff you haven't listened to in a while! To follow on from the best intro and best pop song threads, what is your favourite music era (lets say in 5 year ranges). Mine has to be the 1990-1995 years. Possibly because I was at college at the time but when I look back at some of the great music from that time I can't remember a better one. The Manchester scene was at it's peak (The Stone Roses, James, Oasis, Mock Turtles, The Las, Happy Mondays) - so many of these bands it's hard to list them all, but some great tracks. Then some of the bigger bands were also at their peak (U2 had their best album imho, Achtung Baby, REM one of their best in Out of Time). The Irish scene wasn't too shabby either with great albums from the likes of Something Happens and The Stunning.

Difficult one. Arguably the 60s for many reasons. Then other periods for nostalgiac reasons/associations etc.

Personal taste, but if confined to 5 year periods only I would probably have to say 1975-80.

The maturing of art rock generally, Bowie, Queen, Pink Floyd et al at their prime, prog rock still producing classics, punk, post punk, beginnings of goth and new romantics, NWOBHM.

A lot happening in that period!

Seventies for me.

Any decade that gave us Blood on the tracks , Born to run , Darkness on the edge of town , Exile on main street , The Pretender , Excitable boy,Look Sharp,My aim is true et al is the era for me.

jaysus, are ye joking. Undoubtedly the Fifties. Remember when Bill Haley came out with Rock around the Clock, a young Elvis from America and a young Cliff Richard from Britain, Paul Anka, Everley Brothers, Ruby Murray, Connie Francis, Billy Fury. Bridie Gallagher, Eileen Donaghy. Lads, these were the best. Google them.

1977-82:
Rumours, Never mind the Bollocks, TransEurope Express, Chic, Clash, Aja, Blondie, ELO, Dexys, Squeeze, New Order, The Cure, Two Tone, Duran Duran, Lexicon of Love, Avalon, The Nightfly....

I listen to music now and it makes me cry it's so poor in comparison...

Without doubt, the 70's. Glam Rock, Punk Rock and New Wave. Halcyon days!!!

5 years Lex, only 5 years allowed :)

I have to say Enoxy was quite meticulous in his choice - I might have to reconsider! but first contemplate what I might be excluding from '75 to '77...

Sorry, Cav! Should have gone to Specsavers!

I'll go for roughly '71-'76. The Glam Rock Era. And also when Quo played their heaviest and most daicent music!
