Ford Mondeo vs Skoda Superb

Anybody got either one of these? I'm in the market for a new car and I've narrowed it down to one of these two.

Both are fine cars with 140bhp 2.0 litre diesel.

Ford are offering me a Titanium spec saloon for 18,000 Euro + VAT which seems like a killer of a good deal. I've to go back to Skoda on Monday and see what they will offer of the list price.

Before I make the leap I'd like to hear a few first hand impressions too.

I assume you are not resident in RoI. Are you still in Romania?

I have a 2010 Mondeo zetec. It's a dull but competent and spacious car. Fuel consumtion is nothing to shout about, mid to low forties. I would seriously consider the Superb but it would depend on price. Slim

Thanks for that Slim. Yes, still in Romania.

I test drove both and didn't see a huge difference. Slightly firmer ride in the Mondeo I thought. Service interval of 30k on the Ford and only 20k on the Skoda. Quoted figures would indicate that the Skoda is a little thirstier and slower off the mark too .

I really like the Mondeo but I'm torn since we had a Skoda Octavia for 8 years as a works car at the factory where I was previously employed and it never, ever gave a moments trouble over 380,000kms.

All of that said I'm going to go back to Skoda tomorrow for a chat. I can't, however, honestly see them matching Fords offer.

List price on the Mondeo is 26,500 Euro including VAT @ 24%. Ford are offering me 15% discount on the price before VAT meaning 18,200 Euro.

List price on the Skoda is 26,000 Euro including VAT.

Titanium spec Ford should have all the bells and whistles. Heated seats are best invention ever IMO. Ford do a 2.0 diesel with 163 bhp and a 2.2 diesel with 200bhp also. The ford would be a better drive, but is probably spec'd with 18 inch rims with the Titanium pack. If the roads are anything like over here, they may not be the most comfortable.

Slim is yours a diesel? I thought it did better mpg.
I'm buying this week and have it narrowed down to a Mondeo versus Passat. I've driven a Passat for last 6 yrs so want a change.

I've driven both and both are fine cars but the Ford is less dull to drive.

Yes, it's a diesel. Best reading is 6.3 litres for 100km.
