When a tyre centre advertises 'part worn tyres' what exactly is a part worn tyre?

What's its history?

most part worn tyres come in to ireland with 3mm of tread.from other eu countries like germany where they have tighter nct rules. where as a new tyre typically has 7mm of tread.its reccomended to change your tyres with about 3 mm left on them .lower then 3mm of tread affects breaking distance handling performance and fuel usage.the road legale is 1.6mm tread on a tyre. try stay away from part worn tyres its just a waste of money

I've no intention of buying them.

I just read the ad and wondered about them.

Thanks for the info Dandark! :)

Pretty broad statement there...and an erroneous one at that.

Over the last couple of months, thousands of people have bought part-worn winter tyres for about €35 ea. Compared to up to €200 ea from eiretyres/blackcircles etc.
Perfect, high-quality brands with ample tread for the snow we experienced is in no way a waste of money.

Even for 'summer' tyres, in all honesty, if it came down to a choice between brand new Nangkangs/Linglong Ditchfinders at €60 each or part-worn Continental/GoodYear/etc. for €40 that last less time/mileage, the part-worns would be my choice.

I was told there was a test done in the Uk on these tyres which look fine. The found that alot of them had been strained and were not consistent with each other. They concluded that, even though they looked OK, they were unsafe.

I bought a set of semperits fitted, balanced and the car tracked for €380 recently. they were 205's so not exactly small. I though very good value after shopping around. For all they car you buy tyres are what connect you to the road so why take chances.
