I was listening to this today and heard Joe express surprise/shock more than once at the low which is at number one.(Bertie in the cupboard )

Im not a bit surprised and in a way it gives me hope.

The reason it gives me hope is that the people see how this represents how low those in charge of running the country have gone, it shows that we put up with a lot, take a lot of pain etc, and yet that number one item, was the nuclear button for a lot of people.

It encapsulates the complete disenchantment people feel about FF.

What was really worrying was that Joe duffy ( The so called man of the people) was surprised by the result. In my opinon it is showing that he has lost touch with how people feel.

Did something happen at the Whitney Houston concert, or were the fans just disappointed (& Joe Duffy listeners).

I dont know to be honest.
However the list is obviously biased in that we would need to know who compiled the list in the first place, and there are a lot of people who could /would not put a lot of those things on the lists of highs or lows..
So who decides the list ,gives those who vote only the choices they decide.

That episode happened before the concert took place. Her tour was getting shocking reviews around Europe.
And they played a recent clip of her singing . Like chalk on a blackboard, the lifesytle and drugs taking a toll for sure

So before the concert took place some people asked for a refund and were told no chance by the promoter. So they ranted on Joe Duffy show wondering why they can't get a refund even though the concert hadn't even happened yet

What would be your number one low in 2010?
And what would be your number one high in 2010?

For me the low was "bertie in the kitchen press,.hard to explain, but I felt that we had reached rock bottom. symbolic of how politics is and how Ireland is going..ahh I dont know,it was just gut churning..
( Leaving aside world peace/hunger/homelessness/jobless etc )

And the high would be...eh....eh....Kilkenny been beaten:)

My high should be Cork winning the League and the All Ireland but, we are humble people and we do not gloat. ;)

My Number 1 high of the year was definitely Graeme McDowell. Winning a Major is massive. Clinching the winning point in the Ryder Cup is the stuff of dreams. Each would make you immortal in a sporting context. And then, to cap it all, he kicks Tiger's butt when the whole stage is set for Tiger to end a season of drought with a win in the year's final competition, showing the rest of the world that he was really only taking a break. (How many of you noticed Tiger's caddie, Steve Williams, removing his caddie's bib before McDowell holed his long putt on the 72nd hole to force a play-off? He must have felt some eejit putting it back on for the play-off hole!)

I was delighted that he was named RTE's Sports Personality of the Year. Very well deserved. And I hope that Rory McIlroy will learn the art of patience from him and will be honoured in the same way in years to come. :)

Fantastic alright. Far more "perfect" swings out there too. I think he honestly thinks that he's the best player in the world, but doesn't come across as cocky, just very positive. He's gonna have a good Xmas for sure.

Liveline did a poll a couple of months ago for the president in 2011. Bertie Ahern was the first name to be eliminated and JD said at the time there was a huge amount of votes between Ahern and the next person eliminated.
It's hard to believe he still has not ruled himself out for running next year.

One thing that is interesting is that when he was in office he consistantly polled as the most popular party leader. I wonder does it say something about the public in general during the 'celtic tiger years'?

personally speaking, I'd have put anything to do with X factor, the completley and utterly overrated and rip off Aviva stadium and the ICTU march in my list of lows for the year. I'd add the actions of certain TDs such as Jackie healy rae to the list as well.

As for highs, to be biased, Cork winning the All Ireland, I'd also add certain TDs deciding to "retire" and the response of many people to the snow, in particuler Irish Rail and Luas, and the actions of most people in my street getting out to sweep their paths, in general, it has improved the sense of community around the place

I must take issue with you about the Aviva .

My 10 game football season ticket cost euro 395 and I'm seated on the half way line in the East Upper with 10 of my mates - great bargain.

I can't understand how Joe the Trucker topped the highs - an overextended developer who blames everyone else but himself for his misfortunes !

ICTU march definitely one of the highs for me.

The low - the continuing role of our Banks in burying our economy.

One of my highs would have been the rubber bandits on the Joe Duffy show. Paradox I know, but it was hy-lary-us!

High
Dublin Bus / Dart / Irish Rail kept running during all the snow & ice.

Low
Has to be Anglo Irish et al

Low. Joe Duffy being highly sensitive about the Rubberbandits accents. Anyone who knows Limerick will recognise the accent.
I think Joes salary has removed any credibility he might have in playing the defender of the working class

I couldn't agree more, Firefly. All that self belief was evident on the back 9 against Woods. And a nice guy, as well. (Thanks for not drinking The Long Valley dry the other night. I spent a very pleasant few hours there yesterday!)

Good to hear there is still some value out there, maybe my issue is with the prices the IRFU charge, However having been to the Aviva 4 times since it opened, I found it badly organised, extremely expensive inside for anything to eat and drink, poor visibility from the lower seats, (especially in the corner) and after all the hype associated with it, it's nothing special in terms of facilities. Certainly, it doesn't compare with any modern American stadium and the sight lines are much better at Croker

Joe is so big into FF that he can see no wrong with them at all.
