Hi Brendan...perhaps i am old fashioned but i dislike crudity which often appears on Politics. For example there is a reference to Paul Galvin on the Late Late show which i would not use. But then maybe i am out of step with modern Ireland especially in view of the popularity of the Rubberbandits.
We have a zero tolerance policy towards bad language on askaboutmoney. I think this is unusual on the web?
You could make the suggestion on politics.ie if that is the only drawback? I am not sure how you would get on, but it's worth a try. I suspect that if you want to get into political debates, you are going to get crudity, incivility, abuse etc. Political debate tends towards that.
it's very easy to set up a discussion forum. How about www.cleanpolitics.ie as a name? You could copy the Askaboutmoney posting guidelines, but I am not sure how many users you would get. It's cheap and it's fun trying.
The foul language on politics.ie is a symptom rather than a cause. To use a technical analogy, the signal-to-noise ratio is very low. About 1 in 10 posts contains something useful and relevant, and you have to wade through a whole pile of dross to find it.
Thanks for all the replies especially reference to Politics on Boards. I think i will confine myself mainly to AAM so that my sensitivities will not be offended!
