Hi there,
I'm currently a sole trader and through using google alerts I've spotted someone in the UK using the same name as I currently use.

Even if registered with CORE as a registered business name, have I recourse to prevent the UK user from using the same name?

Any advice would be extremely welcome.
Thanks,
A

A registered business name here does not even protest you from someone else locally using the same name. Ltd Company would locally but not abroad.

If you were to trade in the UK Its all up to "who is there first"

Burger King is called Hungry Jacks in Australia because there was a Burger King setup there before the international chain arrived

Also, Bulmers is branded as Magners in the UK for the same reason.

There is no name protection offered by registering a buisness name in Ireland.

Thanks guys.

I'll now be trading as...I don't know..Nike?
:)

Offered the offending type a franchise as I've bought up the relevant domain and have all procedures ready.
Hopefully t'will turnaround.

Hadn't seriously considered stealing another name, but a salutary lesson indeed.

Worldwide trademark. That's the one.
Thanks,
A

Sorry to jump on the thread but if you have company name registered here and want to launch the same name in the UK in the future, how do you register it in the UK? Cheers.
