Can I get a refund on flight?

I have booked a flight to USA with Aer Lingus and have discovered that I will not be able to go - is there any way of getting a refund? The reason I cannnot go is nothing to do with illness and I do not have travel insurance at moment. I booked through my credit card.
 
Based on the info provided I would doubt if you could get a refund.
Have you asked the question of Aer Lingus?

Can you reschedule the trip. May cost you an additional €50 (you may have to verify this) but based on the info provided it looks doubtful you can cancel and get a refund.
 
It was the basic flight so according to the site there is no refund ...I just wondered if I had any way of claiming through credit card......
 
You may be able to "sell" it if the buyer is prepared to pay for the name change.
What are the dates that you have booked?
 
You have 2 options.

You can pay €50 to change flight to a time when you can travel.

or

You can sell the flight and the person who buys it can pay €50 to change the name. Just remember to price it low enough to attract someone to go through the hassle.

My wife is currently in France and became ill and was told not to travel for a couple of weeks as she had to have an operation. She is staying with her parents as she is from there. Aer Lingus basically told her to get lost. Quote 'thats why people buy travel insurance'!!
We have travel insurance but we just thought after having a letter from a hospital they would change her return date to anytime a couple of weeks later.

In part I can understand, but pretending to be better than the ryanairs for customer service is misleading. At least Ryanair are up front about giving you nothing and you wouldn't even bother to ask.
 
Hi "Onway" . You can change your itinerary ie times,dates and destination for 75 Euros per person per flight PLUS differance in flt charge if it is greater up to 2 hrs before flt. Name change costs 100 Euros up to 2 hrs before flt. You must ring AL to do name change but you can change Itinerary on line in "Manage my Booking". You will get all info on Al web site. Click on "help" at top of home page. You can only get refund of fees (not inc Credit card fees) less 20E admin charge if you cancel. IMO you would be better to change itinerary if you intend to go anwhere. Try not to exceed basic fare price of your US flight. GOOD LUCK
