Hi there
A complete novice here with a basic question, many thanks in advance for any input.
I have a little bit of a tax refund coming in the next few weeks (<4K)
I'm thinking of buying some shares and forgetting about them for 20 years. I gather that a CFD is a method for avoiding CGT so that's of interest.
A brief search of the web indicates that they're a poor long term vehicle because of the interest applied. But as far as I can see that's based on the assumption that you leveraging and paying interest on the leveraged amount. I don't want to leverage but there seems to be no commemntary on this scenario
I don't want to open a dealing account with yearly fees etc. because this is a one time buy and forget thing.
Is what I want to do
1. Sensible?
2. Viable?
If all of the above, then how do I do it?
If neither of the above what's a good tax-efficient alternative?

Many thanks
Kinch

OP, think you might be incorrect in your analysis of CFDs. AFAIK profits made from CFD trading are subject to CGT.
