I’m thinking of setting up a B2B/B2C website – but I’m in a dilemma re the B2B side of things.

I work in a voluntary organization, which is part funded by the government.

One part of my job is in dealing with suppliers/vendors & it’s through liaising with them is where my idea stemmed from.

I know that if I setup this website (unbeknown to the organization), my department (and others) would use it to deal with the suppliers/vendors, so the dilemma I have is that there would be a conflict of interest.

Is there any way around this other than me having to leave the organization to pursue this opportunity?

You work voluntary which I assume you don't get paid for? You don't have much to loose in a monetary sense in a worst case scenario then, just start it up and good luck.

As long as you don't spend anytime on your website\business during your working hours then there shouldn't be a problem. Depends on what your contract says? Does it make any reference to carrying on other employment or business outside of your current employment?

That's interesting and I'll look into that.

How as ever, I really expect this business to expand to other customers such as government departments like the HSE, Finance etc they are obviously using suppliers/vendors too and this website would save them lots of money, especially in this "current economic environment, going forward!!!

I'm hedging that I will have to leave my job as my organization is part funded by the government??
