Opinions on Raheny?

Hi,

We're an FTB couple, looking to buy a house near the DART line, with a budget of around 300K. I've read positive postings from residents about some areas in Raheny, notably Ennafort, St Assams, but these areas seem to be outside our budget.

Would you have any idea if Raheny Road has problems with anti-social elements? Is it a safe area to start a family?

Also any advice about Kilbarrack, preferably near the DART station, would be appreciated.

Many thanks,
iBook

Has to be Raheny. My knowledge of Kilbarrack is limited to passing through the station on the DART and the feral children that hop on and off.

Once you're on Raheny Road, you're getting further away from Raheny and more towards Kilbarrack & Donaghmede. That road is a busy one so that's something to bear in mind if you're concerned about an environment for young children.

Still can't find a good place for our budget, its surprising how 300,000 Euros in this market cannot get a house in a good locality near the DART.

Some folks I work with say the south of the Liffey is better, but the only houses in good condition that fit our budget are well away from the DART line. We have seen some houses that were well located but really old (one place was advertised "pre-war"... I later learned they meant the First World War!) , were poorly maintained or had tiny rooms.

Any suggestions folks?

try tonlegee ave, grange woodbine etc close to darts in kilbarrack and raheny, some lovely houses around there, near schools shops etc..

Thanks YOBR, my initial thoughts were to wait a year more, but we've been renting all these years already, and are really keen on having our own place. I've been looking at propertypin forums for some months.

Thanks Brighid, we had not considered Bayside, we will be looking there.

Thanks for the suggestions Suemoo1.

On Tonlegee avenue/road and Woodbine, I can see its in proximity to Edenmore, which has a reputation for anti-social elements, would you know if the residents there are at risk from such elements?

Have you considered Clongriffin ?

Great park (Father Collins Park), DART station.

On the downside, there's a bit of the 'ghost estate' feel about it, commercial units still not sold, premises built for supermarket and rumours of Superquinn moving in, but nothing confirmed yet.

Bayside is a good area. Some of the houses there are begining to show their age (1970s)

my mam and father in law live on tonlegee ave and have done for the past 40 odd years and never a bit of trouble.. as i said grange/woodbine area nice too with some lovely houses, down by limewood also is nice..

I feel your pain ibook, I too have a budget of between 280000-300000k and have been looking in the Raheny area for the past 2 months. I would love a place close to DART line as i work in Ballsbridge.

Thank you suemoo1 and TarfHead for the advice.

We're just back from a much deferred vacation - we had hoped to buy the house & then take some time off, but the search resumes!

charlie, we know folks who are in the same situation, the banks are just not giving mortgages. Now only if the owners and estate agents can see this reality.

We wish you the best of luck with your search.
