Hello all

I hope someone can advise me on this.

Let's imagine I am thinking of setting up a website which I expect will generate significant income.

Is there a country in the EU where I can register a business for the website which would result in me having to pay little to no tax? This could either be corporation tax or tax on the wage I pay myself, etc.

Any ideas or advice appreciated.

Cheers.

I spotted somebody on ebay.co.uk and they had Isle of Mann as their registered business address but were shipping from a warehouse in the Uk.

Hard to beat NIL corpo tax for the first 3 years in new start-ups*

*terms & conditions apply!

Ireland? Hard to beat 12.5% Corporation Tax on retained company earnings.

So if paddydeplasterer is pulling €100K+VAT for his labour in a year and he sets up a limited company he pays only 12.5K to the taxman and can enjoy €87.5K Nett of tax for himself. He can withdraw this from the company in cash each year and its all above board?

No, to withdraw the money he either has to pay himself a salary (which is taxed as normal) or dividends (also taxable in his hands, with no tax deduction for the company). There are company law rules (and tax issues) if he tries to lend the money from the company to himself.

So I have to balance corporation tax and income tax. Does anyone know any countries who offer the lowest combined total, e.g. 30% corpo tax but 0% income tax, or something like that?

Is it not the case that if you are resident in Ireland, then you are taxed on your worldwide income.

Any Corporation Tax would be payable in whichever country your company is registered, but any salary you pay yourself will be subject to Irish income tax.

I'm in the lucky position where I sort of float around the world living where I want...

While someone here might be able to point you in the direction of more options to consider, it really is a technical area where you will need expert advice on your specific details (in far more detail than you have, or would be able to, provide here).

Depending on how you generate the income from your sites (e.g. direct sales, adsense, affiliate marketing, etc.), you could form something like a Delaware LLC which could/might/will minimise your 'corporate tax' exposure (depending on how the income is generated). However, you'd have to then balance that off against your income tax exposure. Even if you 'float around', you will be liable to pay the relevant taxes to some jurisdiction, so you'll need detailed advice on how to lower/limit your tax liability.

As Windup says Bulgaria as 10% corporate tax and income tax is around 20 to 23% (hardly any different in rates for individuals). Cheap to set up company - around 220 Euros. Cheap place to buy property and live. Now a days (if it is indeed internet based company) good broad band available in most places.
