Seen emachines in Tesco but getting mixed reviews. Also want either xp or windows7 Will only be using this as part of my travels so email, internet, pic storage. Would any decent netbook take ms word for writing up memoirs. Looking at budget of €200-€250 as don’t want to spend mad money but at these prices would I get anything decent?. Wondering if it’s worth getting one with a disk drive or getting the optional disk drive? Wont need it when travelling me don’t thinks but maybe when I get home? Any decent notebooks with a disk drive suppose that pumps up the price

Anyone tried the affordable laptop company or bigpockets.co.uk

In general, netbooks run WinXP and don't have optical drives, so not sure how you install MS Word without an optical drive. If you think you will need an optical drive, maybe you should be looking at laptops, which would support Win7.

Also, as with all PCs, the amount of stated storage is not the same as what will be available for your use once all software has been installed. With what is left, using a netbook to store pictures could quickly consume available storage.

Spend a little more and get one of the newer ones.

I got an Asus EEEPC 1005P for €350 and it's working great. It has a 250gb hard disk , and an 11 hour battery.

I run open office on it no problem. It has a free trial of office pre-installed so presume that should run ok too.
