The minimum you'll (generally) need is: Photo ID (passport, drivers licence etc) and proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, Revenue/Social Welfare correspondence etc).

You may be asked for more (payslips to provide proof on income etc), There is no limitation on bank accounts, you can have as many as you like with different providers.

I suggest you go in to the bank with the following and they will take photocopies there and then and you can file them away for next time.

  1. Passport (Alternative is Driver Licence or ML10 form from Garda station)
  2. Two domestic bills (ESB, Phone, Credit card, Gas)
  3. Three months original current account statements
  4. Proof of RSI number (P21, P60 or any correspondance from Revenue)

Think the PPSN is definitely required if there's any interest being paid on the account (for DIRT payment).

It easier to have them and not have to show them than to not have them and have to show them. Avoid cliches like the plague ....
