I am looking for global travel insurance for travel exceeding 365 days. Will be backpacking through Europe, Russia, China, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America. Looking for good value insurance but most importantly worth having. Thanks for any help

I am just opening this again wondering does anyone have any ideas of insurance companies offering travel insurance over 365 days? Any help would be great. Thanks

http://www.justcover.ie/ do backpacker insurance.. basically worldwide travel insurance for 12 months. simply renew it after the 12 months.
read the t&cs or phone customer care to make sure it's that simple

Thanks for the response. I may likely be incorrect on this but I believe that when taking out the second term I would have to declare that I was in Ireland when taking out the insurance. (or give dates for "start of trip or date of travel". Any incorrect declarations would invalidate the insurance. I have read of flight tickets being requested during claims process. Also return flight info could be requested if a claim occurred in the first 1 year term which would not be available.
I could be wrong on this.

I think you would be correct and techni-fan's advice would mean that your second term of travel insurance wouldn't be valid ... any time I've had to claim on a travel insurance policy they always look for evidence of travel from your home country and return to it ... failure to produce that could invalidate your policy as you say - can't advise you who would give > 12 month insurance policies for travel - but presumably there must be some as it's not uncommon for people to travel for > 12 months

You need to take out a backpackers package.. it covers you for 365 days worldwide... even though you may not be backpacking this is what its called.. it works out good value. If you need exam failure or anything like that included its a little extra.

Just read some of the above posts... the backpacker will only apply for 1 year...you would have to be back in ireland and able to prove this in the event of a claim if you were to take out a 2nd year.

Thanks for the posts guys, anone elce know of backpacker travel insurance over 365 days? Thanks

I'd advise you to phone justcover and ask them to clarify this. I'm sure they've come across cases like this before and I wouldn't be surprised it they allowed you to renew while abroad once your original policy doesn't lapse.

You could take a single policy for the number of days over the 365 and then add on the back packer one. For example if you will be holiday for a year and one month then take a policy for the first month and your back packer will kick in at the end of this period. Accident and General have good backpacker policies.

Thanks for the idea, tried it though and they have confirmed they can only offer insurance for 1 year and travel for any longer will invalidate policy claims. Will not allow renewals from abroad.

Paddylast. The site you referenced, accident and general do travel insurance up to 2 years. Thanks for that. In relation to the suggestion, I believe this would at least invalidate the one month policy as no return travel ticket to claim within the month travel. In relation to the backpacker insurance then, most policies assume you are not currently traveling? Some can be bought travelling I think though.

Think my options are,
accident and general - up to 2 years cover, catering work only, 300-350 Euro, trecking(without picks or ropes) covered, no height mentioned

backpackertravelinsurance-blue insurance- up to 1.5 year- 250-300 worldwide 1.5 year- includes catering, fruitpicking occasional light manual work, trecking under 2000m, cheap upgrades (30 Euro each) to include trecking 4000m/ and or skydives

worldnomads, up to 1.5 years, about 800 worldwide for 1.5 year, no manual labour, hiking to 3000m, over 1000 with manual labour & hilking to 6000m, policy can be extended up to 1.5 year mid travel

Anyone any recomendations on these 3? Any experiences with claims?
