The answer is probably soo simple I'll cry...but when using the selection tools in Paint I can't find a way to deselect or cancel the current tool I'm using....except for the text box.. there is no deselect arrow either.

anyone any ideas pls.

you can't

if you want to cancel what you have selected just click outside the selection

Windows XP I assume? Click a different tool then click selection again.

Windows 7 has a different paint app.

yup XP don't quite understand what you mean...

example... if I click the can of paint spray the only way I can turn it off is by selecting another tool and the same thing happens with that tool...I'm beginning to feel like a right tool at this stage:D

The only way to turn off a tool is to select another one. Theres always one tool selected. I'm not sure why does that cause you a problem? Its a very basic application. Paint is 24yrs old. Theres lots of alternatives. What are you trying to do?

I don't have XP at home. I'd have to look at it at work. I actually use it a bit for editing screen captures, on machines with graphics app installed.

Yeah I see now Paint is very limited....you cant even go back and edit a text box..I'm fairly sorted anyhow and thanks for your help.....am going to download gimp and take the time to get to know some basic stuff there.
