got used car at weekend, need to nct and tax it,its booked for nct,and a friend of friend said to drop it in and they will do it when they are less busy and its not booked till may.my q here is do they need the log book to ct it as it has not come yet,i emailed nct and they have they have my details on file as owner etc.

to tax it do i need nct proof?

so i will have to drive either without tax.nct to get the other done, will i get in trouble for this,i am not driving the car at all now, waiting to get this stuff done.

You do NOT need it taxed to have it NCT tested.

You do NOT need it NCT tested to get it taxed.

I agree, I have never been asked to produce a Vehicle Licencing Certificate or log book (for cars registered prior to mid-90s I think) for a NCT test.

As far as taxing is concerned; there should be no problems waiting for the VLC/Log Book i the post prior to taxing it

You don't an NCT to tax your car, but you do you need the VLC - which you should normally receive within 10 working days.
