The Dáil has voted itself another two-week holiday today - just a fortnight after returning from their St Patrick's Day time off.

TDs will leave Leinster House this evening and not be back until Tuesday, April 20.

The Labour leader insisted they should be back after a week off and be discussing rising dole queues and the other challenges facing the country.

Sure can you blame them. It's a tough job.

Oh to have a job where you can just decide to vote yourself more holidays.

Just as well the country & economy is so nice and stable right now!!

Is there a way to find out exactly which of them voter for this as I reckon they should be named & shamed.

Just because the Dail isnt sitting doesnt mean the TD's aren't working.

Still it stinks though, constituency work should take a backseat when we have the problems we have.

If you mean by 'working' - giving all our money to Anglo, I'd rather they didn't ever come back from holidays. I'd pay them to stay away. The country would be far better off without a government.

Too late - they did the real damage in Sept 2008 when they signed off on the unlimited guarantee.

They do nothing when they are in the Dail and nothing when they are not in the Dail, always was the case and always will be until Irish voters cop on big time.

Does anyone know what BIFFO stands for ???? Well all the the TD's qualify.

Do you? not all TDs are from Offaly! (Big Ignorant Fooker From Offaly)

Not all politicians are the same just like all public servants arent lazy, just like all private sector workers arent greedy. There is good and bad in every profession.

lately i noticed that all the video clips rte are showing on tv show only a handful of TDs in the dail ,nearly all the seats are empty. how many TDs should be sitting in the dail

There are 166 member of Dail Eireann- therefore 166 TD's/Deputies should be sitting there!

In my view, it should be obligatory for all Dail members to be present whenever the Dail is sitting. Granted this is not possible for everyone all the time so therefore valid excuses should be accepted (within reason), but it is laughable to see it 70% empty.....

TD's and Deputies should be deducted salaries when they do not sit. That might encourage them to ensure attendance.

As for the extra holidays.......An absolute joke! In times of national crises holidays should be reduced not handed out like leaflets! These people should be getting on with the job and working harder than normal to get the country back on its feet, just like everyone else (public, private, self employed- whatever)

As for the perks....I wonder if George Lee will give up his 'parking spot for life' in Leinster house now that he is no longer a TD!

You are nearly right, the I = IDLE and it applies to all the TD's and if a lot of them gave as much as 2 f's for Ireland they would forego all the money they are raking in. Have a read today about the amount of money berti cost to be ferried around last year.

We are a total and utter useless electorate in that we allow these wasters to get elected year in year out. The IMF should step in and get rid of all these old boy network agreements. I get a pension, I get a salary, I get a car for life, I go off and give speeches, I get my book classed as artistic so pay no tax, oh this is really really heaven.
