Insurance vs Ownership

Hi All

Can anyone tell me, my friend's car is insured in one name and the registration documnet is in the name of a different person(previous owner who is not even in the country anymore) they are holding it until the cars is completely paid for. They have a simple sale agreemnet on a piece of papper etc. What happens if he wants to make a claim on the insurance policy, the car is basiclly a write off?

either printed or a web-based one.

If someone declared themselves as the owner on the insurance application and the car is registered to someone else, they may have no insurance.
 
+ 1 Mathepac. The proposal will have asked the question "is the vehicle registered in your name" if the person answered "yes" and it wasnt, then in the event the car is written off the policy will be voided and nothing will get paid out!
 
Got it all sorted, thanks to all for your help. The registration document was infact changed to his name after he had paid half the money. Thanks to all for your help.
