With the Passport Office in the news at the moment I decided to check mine well in advance of the holidays and only now noticed that they have my surname spelled wrong. Although I have travelled using it without a problem I'm wondering should it be changed to avoid any complications - especially if i use RyanAir - I believe from other posts that they are very strict ?

I can't understand how they could got it wrong - i think the name is required in about 4 places in block capitals on the app form and also a signature.

If it were to be amended I presume it would be free of charge ??

An alternative is when you book your flights then book with the name as it is spelt on the passport and you shouldn't have a problem. Once the flight booking and passport name match then there won't be an issue I think.

They did the same with my passport some years ago and they amended it free of charge within a week.
How long it would take them now is anyones guess

Thanks for that ... I emailed them today , can wait for their reply cos i'm not in a hurry. I would expect them to replace it free because I reckon I didnt get what I paid for (although I do take the point that I can just misspell my name when booking flight

Just on a slightly different topic must the name on your passport be the same as the name on your birth cert?

No, there is a space where you can fill in the name you wish to appear on the passport.

yeah I have the same since early 2008 only one L in my surname rather than 2 L's. Iv always booked Ryanair flights with the one L.

Iv been to US, Germany, UK, Spain and India, the only person to say anything about it was a girl at the check-in desk in Boston when returning.
The Indians just gave out about the coffee stain along where the staples are
