Is there anywhere in Dublin I can buy Jordan Dinars. I used to buy from Thomas Cook before they closed.

Unless you want to be ripped off horribly why bother ? - I've no idea if there's anywhere in Ireland that would stock Jordanian Dinars (I'd guess not), and even if you did find somewhere the rate/commission is likely to be criminal! - Just take your ATM/Credit cards and use the machines when you arrive and during your stay.

As always taking a little bit of cash in € or $ would be a good idea just in case, but mainly rely on your ATM cards it's the cheapest and safest way to withdraw local currency pretty much no matter where you go .. There's hardly a country in the world these days that hasn't got a reasonable ATM network that you can use to safely and securely withdraw cash while travelling.

Only problem is, you need Jordan currency in order to get a visa to get into the country..

Im just about to order some from my bank as Im heading off in next month. I was wondering if there was alternatives myself...

Are you flying into Amman? There is an ATM right next to where you queue to get and pay for your visa on arrival.

I did not know it was possible to use an Irish ATM card in the Middle East ... you mean I could use my National Irish Bank ATM card in Syria & Lebanon? Seems too good to be true, I am getting advice to take travellers cheques, which I hate. Tho I 'spose you could lose the ATM card :(. Do you have to do something prior to travel, (eg) "activate" or enable the card in some way?

Thanks for the replies.

SLS what bank are you buying JD's from?

Thanks Spudz I'll use the atm.

The reason I asked is because I wanted to get a few Dinars to pay for the visa in the airport to save me having to queue up to buy currency at the airport which is a rip off there and then having to queue at emigration

I was planning to get mine from Ulster, I have a visa debit and I was thinking of getting some cash for exactly the same purpose as what you described..

thks stephen.
however I looked on a site called
mastercard.com/us/personal/en/cardholderservices/atmlocations/index.html

and there are no "maestro" atms listed for Syria not even the airport. There are some listed in Lebanon ok, but not Syria. Are you sure?

Khairabar, I just asked my wife what atm card she used in Syria and she used a Visa Debit card so maybe Maestro can't be used there. Sorry about that

I was in Jordan two years ago and they had a currency exchange booth and an ATM beside where you get your visa in Amman airport. 10JD for visa if I remember correctly. Also if you are travelling in a group of five or more the charge is waived. Interestingly the value of the JD and € are almost identical (or it was when I was there) which is quite handy.

Enjoy Jordan, it is an absoulutely fantastic country!!!!!
