Appartment upstairs neighborurs: unreasonable because we were hoovering @ 11am Sunday

My friend lives in an apartment block and a couple in their thirties has moved into the apartment above her.

As with a lot of apartments the soundproofing, although it meets the minimum requirements, isn't great.

Anyway, she was hoovering at around 11.30 on Saturday morning and the husband upstairs came down banging on her door and saying it was Saturday morning and could people not have a lie on.

She was really upset over it but I think they had a total cheek. It's not like it was 6am or midnight or something. Just wondering how other people would feel about this?

Obviously they dont have kids as they'll then realise that Saturday's start at 7am...

She should have bate him with the hoover !!!

What is she supposed to do? Wait til they rouse themselves from the bed before doing her hoovering? Thats ridiculous.

I live in an apartment block too and someone in my block runs their washing machine on a spin cycle quite late at night, usually after Ive gone to bed, 10.30/11pm-ish. The spin reverberates all the way through the block, its loud. But - Id never complain, I just tune it out - its background noise, like cars passing.

Id view hoovering the same way, its background noise you can tune out - especially at 11.30am on a saturday morning, when there would be plenty of other street noise happening anyway.

I live in an apartment as well, and I wouldn't dream of complaining about noise at 11 oclock in the morning. That's why I couldn't believe when my friend told me about this. The guy above me is really heavy on his feet and I get woken up by him pounding around in the small hours of the morning on a regular basis but I haven't even complained about that as he's a nice neighbour in every other way and I'm just glad he's not having parties or playing loud music all the time. I think this couple are just going to have to get used to apartment living or go and get a house. They can't expect everyone to jump to their beat all the time.

Probably more going on in their lives than the hoovering noise at 11 in the morning too.

You said this couple live above her.....so how could the noise be that bad? Unless she was hoovering her ceiling!!! If it was the resident below her then I couod understand the noise might be considerably louder as it'd be above their head but 11.30 is a perfectly acceptable time to do your hoovering iIMO.

Don't most apartment "House Rules" specifiy no disturbing noises etc from 23.00 - 07.00? They do in my block anyway....not that it stops the guy above me having his washer/dryer going til 3am last Sunday. And I did complain to the mgmt agent as he'd kept me up til 3.30am the previous Sunday carousing with what sounded like a herd of elephants! But I wouldn't dream of complaining if it was outside the hours of 23.000 - 07.00.

My neighbour gave out (in a light hearted way) to me because I moved the front lawn at 10am one Saturday morning(maybe it was 9.30am) and she sleeps on till 1.

In fairness Manda, heavy landscaping works at 10am on a Saturday is pushing it. Although well done on being in line for the Superwoman awards.;)

Not that much of a superwoman. She obviously left the bank garden where it was until another day.

What on earth ( heh heh) is a bank garden? I mean I know she's an accountant but...:confused:

Next Saturday just lie directly under their bedroom have very loud sex - Your friend might have to fake it depending on his/her circumstances. - anyone knocks just tell them to go away you are having a lie in. :D

There has to be give and take in apartment living.

My next door neighbours seem to have suffered a deterioration in relationship joy in the past number of months and can be heard fighting VERY loudly (as in I can make out the exact words of the row) at least twice a week for at least 40 minutes at a time (must be tiring!!).

Ive been considering playing the same song out good and loud everytime I hear them fighting from now on - more to alert them to the fact that people can hear them than anything else.

Anyone any good song suggestions to accompany the rows?

I was thinking of Rage Against The Machines, Killing In the Name Of, but didnt want to be encouraging them into violence ;)

I lived in an apartment where my neighbours had very noisy sex, commencing at 1 a.m. for approx 40 minutes EVERY night. The grunts would get louder & louder. The male (I assume it was, deeper voice) would make a particular noise the closer he got to ahem "the event". One particular evening when I knew I had a particularly early start the following day, their session was lasting close to an hour,

In my frustration (no pun intended) I hammered on the wall & shouted "for God's sake will you just finish". It worked;)

werent you lucky they werent tantric, though 40 mins to an hour, maybe they were !!, tis medals you should have been giving them

They could have just been playing Wii tennis.

Filthy mind you have to leap to that conclusion.
