Battery on ipod nano

I recently purchased a new ipod nano - according to website etc battery should last about 24 hours before needing to recharge. however, I find that after approx 15 hours of playtime the battery goes dead.

Is this normal with these or is it something I should get back to them about?

Yeah, that 24 hours is pushing it with the new nano. It's based on pretty much listening to one album for 24 hours without changing songs, volume or pressing anything else. However, some things to check:

1. Radio is off. Make sure that you have pressed "stop radio" as it can still be "on" while listening to other music. Use of the radio also eats the battery. Check the settings if you don't need to have the "pause" feature or song marking.

2. Games and video eat the battery.

3. Recording video eats battery.

4. Check the "energy save" settings. Reduce back light level, screen off settings etc to maximise the life.

I have to admit this is the first ipod I've had to keep charging every day even with all of that. The battery is pretty useless.

One quick question: is it 15 hrs continuous play or is that 15 hours and the battery's flat even if powered off and intermittent use?

If it's the latter that is very poor form, without radio or games I can get 20 hours play before having to recharge.

Plus, the powering off when not using helps.

this would be on for about an hour in the morning and around the same in the evening during the week - otherwise switched off

I bought mine [Gen 5] in Harvey Norman's in Sept and was very unhappy with the battery life. It compared very badly with the Generation 4, so I brought it back and they replaced it. Took a week but much better now!

How long did yours last before it needed to be recharged - only bought mine just before Xmas so battery should still be working as new

I'm finding my 2 year 8gb iPod Nano (3rd gen?) of late isn't lasting as long as previously. Not sure if the battery naturally declines as per most rechargeable items but I've noticed of late it's getting ridiculous.

I bought a radio attachment accessory in Argos last yr and it used to last about 4 - 6+ commuter journey's (1 into work, one home each about an hr to an hr and a half) but now of late its lasting about just a full or partial day's journey, ie 1 - 2.5.

This has been happening nearly all the time now - even when it's turned to sleep or off off using the lock at the bottom. Or if it's in the pocket for a day etc. I know when I turn it off, there is battery left but when turning it on, it's run down even when it's not on.

I was wondering was it the cold affecting it or just it's old now??

I charge using a mains adapter rather than by pc as can charge in work that way and it's given it's full charge.

Hardly used it for the 1st year - it was a present from an ex and until I got a radio this time last yr I didn't use it much. It's really bugging me on how little time I get now that it's just not worth using.

I've resorted back to my trusty Sony Radio/CD/MP3 disc walkman the last week and happy again - the daily commute of recent times was done more in silence than with music. At least when there is low battery with the walkman, the radio will work for a good few hrs more.

Hated also on ripping cd's but did find iPod handy in summer - less bulky and easy to put mp3's onto it and easier on batteries but for me think the walkman is easier over all. Call me old fashioned but don't fix what's not broken. :)
