Hi all,

My mother is on a non-contributory state pension. She has been offered a job in a local hotel, its only on sundays and for only about 6 hours a day. Would taking this job affect her pension? I've heard conflicting reports as to whether she can or not. The job would pay minimum wage, so she would be earning roughly €51 a week from it.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could help clear this up for me.

Thanks

Here's the link to the SW page on State Pension (Non-Contributory).

http://www.welfare.ie/EN/Schemes/Pension/SPNonContributory/Pages/oancp.aspx

It states that...

Any cash income you have is assessed in the means test. This includes income from a social security pension from another country. However, certain items of cash income are not taken into account in the means test. For example, earnings of up to €200 per week from employment (but not self-employment) are not taken into account. Any income from work above €200 is assessed as means.

This would suggest that your mother would not lose any of her pension based on the expected wages. She should notify the Dept when she starts work.
