Hi All,

A family member is currently working (legitimately) as part time staff 3 days a week and was signing on for social welfare 3 days a week (worked 3 days including saturday). She started working there 9 months ago. She earns €214 per week.

At first this was fine, she recieved the social welfare for the days she didnt work and earned money for the days she was employed.

Last month she was informed by her employer that 16 euro tax would be stopped from her wages every week and that she owed tax of €162 which she duly paid.

She is married.

Last week she was then told that she was not being allowed her social welfare payments amymore for the days that she isnt working.

After a brief explanation including something about her husband possibly recieving her tax credits (he is full time employed) she is wondering why the social welfare has been discontinued.

The workers in the social welfare office advised her to reapply because they may give it back to her. But if thats the case, why would it possiby be stopped in the first place!???

Can anyone shed some light on this? Who should she talk to, local social welfare office is not very helpful.

Thanks for your time guys.

Maybe she could appeal the decision? And maybe reapply as advised?

Appeals Office

Maybe What SW payment was she receiving? JB or JA or something else? The qualification criteria for most payments are outlined on the SW website and are usually clear enough.
