Hi.
I am in reciept of job seekers benefit for the last 12 months now.
It works out at €230 a week as I am married with 2 students still at home.
My wife has €140 a week on Illness benefit.

I have applied for a job locally which will involve working every day for 4 hrs a day. 20 hrs a week. I contacted the Local Labour office and they tell me that because I would be employed on a daily basis, I would loose my JB allowance. If I worked for 3 continuous days, I could claim for another 3 days !!
Is there any sence to this ??? I would still only be working the same hours in any one week.

Any thoughts please ?

Can you talk to the employer and ask to be put on a three day week instead? The rule is you can only work three days and get JB for the other, as far as I know.

You must be available for full-time work in order to claim Jobseeker's, and, as you're working for 4 hours each day, you won't qualify.

As you are working over 19 hours per week, and have 2 dependant children, you might qualify for FIS (Family Income Supplement). You can download a form from www.welfare.ie

see will the employer put it down as 3 days....You want to work they want someone happy days!!
