Will bank account cost me?

I've just finished a masters and want to apply for Jobseekers Allowance whilst I'm looking for work. I have 2k in my bank account. Is this likely to mean that I'll get a smaller weekly allowance?

I'm 29. I haven't worked in Ireland in 4 years. I'm currently living at home with my parents who are retired.

As you are allowed to have up to 20K in savings before it adversely affects your JA, or 5K if you are applying for supplementary welfare (while waiting for JA to be processed) you have nothing to worry about.

As you are over 25 your parents will not be means tested

thank for

thank for that post, please write again soon :)

Thanks for the replies.

On the Jobseekers Allowance form there is a 'Household Profile' section where it asks you to list the income of everyone living with you. This is before and separate from the section where it asks you are you over 24 years of age. What then is the purpose of this section?

As I have already said above, as you are over 24 this section is not relevant to you.

The purpose for those under 24 is to carry out a means test on the total "Household Income"
