Hi!
Moving back to Dublin in summer 2010 with young family. Looking for advice on nice quiet areas to rent a 4-5 bed house, within 30-45 min commute of Crumlin hospital (car/public transport) at about 8AM/6PM. Anywhere to avoid like the plague? How bad would the M50 commute be from Leopardstown/Rathmichael side? Couldn't afford anything over 2.5-3k/month. Will need access to creches for now, schools from next year.
Many thanks for any/all advice.

Templeogue would be a handy commute to Crumlin Hospital. It is a nice, quiet settled area.

Renelagh would be a good area. No. 18 bus travels through the village direct to Crumlin hospital if needed. There are some nice properties on Daft.ie at the moment that would give you an idea of rental prices in Dublin 6 area.

Have a look on www.daft.ie Rathmichael/Leopardstown would be a long enough commute but having said that the traffic is a lot lighter these days on the M50 with so many people out of work.

Public transport to Crumlin Hospital would be tough from Leopardstown. It would probably mean into town and out again. Parking around the hospital is bad unless you would have parking granted. The Luas is a bit of a walk but just enough for exercise purposes :)

Templeogue/Terenure sounds good.

www.dublinbus.ie or www.luas.ie might be useful.

If you could manage to find somewhere within reach of the Red luas line, you could ease your commute significantly.

CHurchtown, Dundrum - these are long established areas with lots of facilities including schools, shops, good public transport, and should get to Crumlin in less than 30 minutes (maybe 40 on a bike!). There are some nice properties in these areas - check www.daft.ie, www.myhome.ie - for the rent you've mentioned, you should get a very nice home to rent. Good luck with your search.

Harolds Cross and Rathmines would also be possibilities - you are just down the canal from Crumlin. Dublin 8 also a possibility (I live off Donore Avenue and think it is a great area but its not for everyone - you need to be sanguine about all classes and creeds rubbing along together. You could get a lovely 4 bed on somewhere like Dufferin Ave/Emorville Road/Bloomfield Avenue for under 2 grand I'd imagine). Both Dublin 8 and Dublin 6 have good childcare provision but schooling is a bit trickier, good schools tend to be very oversubscribed
