US stock holdings and IRS tax deadline?

Hi everyone,

About six months ago I started a small portfolio through an online brokerage in the US. I submitted a W-8BEN form as required in order to declare my foreign (non-US citizen/resident) status for US tax purposes.

My online account is currently displaying lots of reminders to investors to file their tax forms on time. However, does this apply to me? Am I required to file anything with the IRS? I have no other dealings with the US besides those few small investments.

Thanks for your help :)

15% withholding tax will be deducted from your dividend payment. If you had not sent in form w8-BEN, the shareholding company will withhold 30% for the IRS.
At the end of the year you will receive a cert showing the withholding tax. You only have to pay the Revenue Commissioners the difference between our tax and the 15%.
If you have opened a US bank account you must let the Revenue Commissioner know.
