i am a sole trader, only working 1 or 2 days a week. i started my business in sept 06. Could anyone advise me...

If i do my books from sept 06 to sept 07, do i just pay tax on the tax year of sept 06 to dec 06.
Also, im finding auctioneers fees rather expensive, im not earning too much, would it be okay to do my own books?

any advice would be much appreciated
