I`ve been quoted €1,500 for 2 crowns - can I claim tax relief at higher rate?
So €1,500 less €630 (1,500@ 42% - paying tax at higher rate)= €870 net cost.
Is this correct?

Yes and no. Yes you can claim back at the higher rate but there is a yearly "excess" which they deduct. If you have other Med. or Dental claims already then the "excess" will have been taken care of but if not and this will be your only claim then you have to take that into account. I forget the figure but it is a few hundred and is higher if you are combining claims for other family members. www.revenue.ie will give you all you need to know. Search for Med1 form

haven`t other exps - does anyone know for sure if the excess has been abolished.
Think it was €125 per person.

Med 1- Health expense claims removal of €125 excess (effective 2007) - Section 9 Finance Act 2007 (replaces S459 1987 Act)

(ii) by substituting the following for subsection (2):

"(2) Subject to this section, where an individual for
a year of assessment proves that in the year of assessment
he or she defrayed health expenses incurred for
the provision of health care, the individual shall be
entitled, for the purpose of ascertaining the amount
of the income on which he or she is to be charged to
income tax, to have a deduction made from his or
her
total income of the amount proved to have been
so defrayed.",

Revenue website still says deduction of €125 for individual and €250 per group. When was this abolished?
