my brother needs braces badly
he is 14 now and hasnt even been refered on through school and it doesnt look like happening in near future

we are going to investigate going privately and getting tax relief on this (20%)

it seems dental work up north is cheaper i presume that one cannot claim tax relief in this situation
 
Tax relief is granted at your marginal rate - 20% or 42%. As far as I know it doesn't matter if the expenses are incurred outside the juristiction in order to qualify for tax relief as long as the required forms/information are returned. You might want to double check directly with Revenue just in case to be sure before doing anything.

im currently getting bright white and crowns form a dentist up norht

rang revenue and they said to fill in a med 2 for available on the website and send it in at the end of the year to claim back at the rate i pay
