I am an accountant but on occasion I need to seek help in relation to complicated or larger transactions. I am though finding it hard to get a tax specialist who I can talk to. I have used Jim Tierney at Mazars, Galway but he is very hard to get and they usually try to fob you of with somebody else. I have used others but they are either too dear, too slow or wont commit to their advice (not good enough?). Any other suggestions.

Dermot O'Brien & Associates based in Dublin are excellent, especially when it comes to VAT. Dermot himsel is the current President of the Institute of Taxation if memory serves.

Tax consultants aren't cheap ( expect €250-€350/hr for best in field ) but for accuracy and completeness of work, and as a person who's easy to get to and always returns calls, try Michael Furlong partner at Alan Moore Tax Consulants, Capel Building, Mary's Abbey, Dublin 7. Works with Alan Moore ( he of the Sunday Business Post ) & a brilliant tax mind.
